OTTAWA – Incumbent Kanata Ward councillor Marianne Wilkinson has flip flopped on the issue of garbage pickup.
Wilkinson voted against keeping weekly pickup when council was debating the issue in 2011, now she would like to see weekly pickup return in the summer.
However, summer pickup would require a new contract, a cost pegged at $3 million in 2011. Mayor Jim Watson told 1310news, the issue is no longer up for debate.
“Every time we have a controversial issue, we can’t simply change our position because some people object to it,” Watson said. “I’ve been to every different ward, and I can tell I see more people putting their green bin out today then I did four years ago.”
