OTTAWA – After a long winter and cool spring, many of us have been looking forward to a long, hot summer.

However, it’s looking like you may need your umbrella more than the air conditioner.

“Many of the computer weather models are pointing to a wetter and cooler summer,” said 1310 meteorologist Jill Taylor. “Keep in mind though, long range forecasts are not set in stone.”

June is off to a hot start, breaking a temperature record Monday. It became the hottest June 2 since 1970 when the temperature reached 30 degrees Celsius by 3 p.m.

Meantime, we are in for a good amount of rain Tuesday, with a special weather statement in effect from Environment Canada.

A band of showers and isolated thunderstorms will move through much of eastern Ontario, bringing heavy downpours.
Some areas could see 20 to 44 millimetres of rain, along with thunderstorms.

Special weather statement in effect for:

Ottawa
Gatineau

Cornwall
Morrisburg
Smiths Falls
Lanark

Pembroke
Barry’s Bay
Sharbot Lake
Brockville
Leeds and Grenville
